Quick answer
Midtown is no longer one of my primary Houston recommendations for recent graduates or young professionals. It was once a leading destination, but my clients now choose the Heights and other Inner Loop neighborhoods much more often. Midtown has experienced business closures, relatively limited newer apartment development, and block-level concerns that renters should evaluate carefully. Its METRORail access remains a meaningful advantage for someone who needs transit to Downtown, the Museum District, or the Medical Center. I would consider Midtown selectively when a specific apartment, budget, or rail-dependent commute makes sense—not as the automatic young-professional starting point it once was.
